Getting to Kampala
Once you have reached Entebbe Airport, you can hire a private taxi to take you to the capital city, Kampala. This will cost around 80,000 Ugandan Shillings. There are many hotels available in the city catering to all budgets.
Getting to Masindi
The bus from Kampala to Masindi leaves at 7.30am from the main Post Office on Kampala Road, and costs approximately 15,000 Ug Shillings, roughly US$6, and takes around 4 hours. However, you can get yourself down to the new taxi park by private taxi or ‘boda boda’ (motorbike) and ask for the ‘matatu’, (or public minibus/taxis) which leaves regularly throughout the day to Masindi. It will travel a little faster than a coach, (around 3-4 hours).
Using either of these means will take you into the small town of Masindi, and you can take either
1) a private cab (known as a ‘special hire’) to the hotel at around 20,000 Ug Sh
2) a ‘boda boda’ (motorbike) at 1,000 Ug Sh
3) the back of a bicycle for a bargain 300 Sh.
The later is by far the most enjoyable, yet the most unpractical if you happen to be inconvenienced by 2 heavy suitcases, a handbag, 2 children, a goat…..
